Prayer at the Preface
Catholic Mass Prayer at the Preface
It is truly meet and just, right and available to salvation,
that we always, and in all places,
give thanks to Thee, holy Lord, Father Almighty, eternal God,
through Christ our Lord,
by whom the angels praise Thy majesty,
dominations adore it, the powers tremble before it,
the heavens and heavenly virtues, and blessed seraphin,
with common jubilee glorify it;
together with whom we beseech Thee,
that we may be admitted to join our voices,
saying in an humble manner.
Holy, holy, holy, Lord God of Sabaoth; heaven and earth are full of Thy glory.
Hosanna in the highest.
Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.
Hosanna in the highest.
Amen.
Catholic Mass Prayer at the Preface is a prayer you can silently pray before the Eucharist part of the Mass. This is the part of Mass when the priest says, “Let us give thanks to the Lord, our God,” and we reply, “It is right and just.” The wording in the prayer the priest says after this varies depending on the liturgical season we are in (ordinary time, Advent, or Lent, for example). This prayer here is one you can pray silently at this time during Mass.
Liturgy Brisbane has a longer explanation about this section of the Mass. If you are interested in hearing chants of different preface prayers, NPM.org has a list of audio clips on their website you can listen to.
