a Catholic Mass Prayer after the priest washes his hands
Catholic Mass Prayer at the Secret Prayers Proper for the Day
Mercifully hear our prayers, O Lord,
and graciously accept this oblation,
which we, Thy servants are making to Thee;
that as we offer it to the honour of Thy name,
so it may be to us a means of obtaining Thy grace here,
and in the next life, everlasting happiness.
Amen.
The Catholic Mass Prayer at the Secret Prayers Proper for the Day can be prayed silently by the faithful when the priest is praying what is called the secret prayers. The secret prayers are prayers the priest prays quietly when he is on the altar. This particular prayer can be prayed during the Mass after the priest washes his hands. Even though the priest is representing Christ, he alone is not offering the sacrifice of the eucharist. All of us present are offering the sacrifice to God since we are all one body in Christ. This prayer is a reminder to us of this and we ask God to accept it for our benefit in this life and in the next.
