The Fruits of the Holy Spirit
“The fruit of the spirit is love, joy, peace, patient endurance, kindness, generosity, faith, mildness, and chastity. Against such there is no law!
“Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified their flesh with its passions and desires. Since we live by the spirit, let us follow the spirit’s lead. Let us never be boastful, or challenging, or jealous toward one another.”
Galatians 5: 22-26
The Catechism of the Catholic Church, number 1832 says:
“The fruits of the Spirit are perfections that the Holy Spirit forms in us as the first fruits of eternal glory. The tradition of the Church lists twelve of them: “charity, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, generosity, gentleness, faithfulness, modesty, self-control, chastity.””
The Fruits of the Holy Spirit encourage us, as St. Paul says, to “follow the spirit’s lead” in how we live our lives. If we “belong to Christ Jesus,” we will live by His example and follow where He guides us, which is in love and virtue.
