Prayer for Lent
Lord, help me to be open to You and Your desires for me.
I know You want to purify me-like in a refiner’s fire.
Help me to accept the fire of Your love openly and willingly, even though it may burn sometimes.
Help me to keep my eyes on You and not on any pain, frustration, or difficulty I may face as You work to purify me.
May I submit to You completely and willingly, full of trust and love.
Lord, thank You for loving me and caring for me so much that You died for me and are working to purify my heart and soul and draw me even closer to You.
Lord, please help me to see and understand how You want to purify me this Lent so that I may cooperate with You instead of resisting You.
May I also feel and know Your love in my heart as I live this Lent drawing even closer to You.
Thank You.
Amen.
Prayer for Lent is an original prayer by Mary at Blessed Catholic Mom. It may not be copied without the permission of the author.
This Prayer for Lent was inspired by a prayer prompt in Blessed is She’s Lenten devotional: “Spend some time in prayer asking the Lord in what ways He wants to pursue and purify your heart this (Lent) season.” In journaling about this prompt, I asked God how He wanted to do purify and pursue my heart this Lenten season and then wrote this prayer. I share it with you. May we work each day (not only during Lent but every day) to open our hearts to God and allow him to pursue and purify our hearts. May we accept His love and His purification so we may be every day more and more who He has created us to be.
If you are looking for a way to reflect on the Gospel readings each day during Lent, the Blessed Lenten Companion is a great resource. You can find out more about it here: Blessed Lenten Companion
The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: How to Practice the Sacred Heart Devotion by Rev. John Croiset shares the message Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary about His Sacred Heart. Fr. Croiset was the spiritual director for St. Margaret Mary for 43 years. The book also contains St. Margaret Mary’s prayers to the Sacred Heart and the Sacred Heart Promises.

Thank you for this beautiful prayer and captivating image, Mary. I have made a .pdf of it to put in my journal and will try to pray it every day in Lent as well as meditate on the image of Christ.
In your Lenten Companion, will the reflections be tied to the daily readings? It looks like they will based on the example for Ash Wednesday. Thank you for this resource, too!
