Psalm 131: Humble Trust in God-my soul is still in the Lord
Psalm 131: Humble Trust in God
1 A song of ascents. Of David.
O Lord, my heart is not proud,
nor are my eyes haughty;
I busy not myself with great things,
nor with things too sublime for me.
2 Nay rather, I have stilled and quieted
my soul like a weaned child.
Like a weaned child on its mother’s lap,
[so is my soul within me.]
3 O Israel, hope in the Lord,
both now and forever.
Psalm 131 is a great Psalm to pray when we want to quiet ourselves in God’s presence and put our complete faith and trust in Him. The meaning of David’s message in the Psalm is to humble ourselves before God, to be like a child cuddling with its mother, feeling safe and secure in its mother’s love and care. This is the complete trust we should have toward God. Check out your Catholic Bible for a commentary on this Psalm.
