What is the Difference Between All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day in the Catholic Church?
When people ask, “What is the Difference Between All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day?” They may wonder if there actually a difference between them. Are they the same thing? No. They are different feast days. The difference between All Saints’ and All Souls’ Day is who is commemorated. On All Saints’ Day, we remember the saints that are in Heaven. On All Souls’ Day, we remember those who have died. These souls may be in Heaven or in Purgatory.
What is All Saints’ Day?
First, it is good for us to remember that a saint is a soul who has gone to Heaven. Every soul in Heaven is a saint-whether or not they have been officially canonized by the Catholic Church and declared a Saint.
When we celebrate All Saints’ Day, we remember those who are in Heaven, seeing the face of God. We can ask them, as our brothers and sisters in Christ, to pray for us here on earth.
What is All Souls’ Day?
All Souls’ Day is when we remember and pray for all souls who have died. We may not know if a person who has passed away is in Heaven (called a saint) or in Purgatory (called a soul). We want to remember them and pray for the repose of their souls.
