Lent is here.
Brother Joe Steen has some good advice for us about Lent. It is actually good advice for our everyday lives, too: be intentional this Lent.
Brother Joe said that sometimes what we need to do during Lent is not to add something new to our spiritual life, but be more intentional with what we already do. I thought that was a good observation. How often do we look at a spiritual practice we do, like praying the Rosary or reading the Bible, and we think, “Done! I can check that off my list now,” when we have finished?
Being more intentional and focused on God while we pray and spend time with Him is the key. Just as we want someone we are talking with to give us their full attention, we can do so with God. We can give Him our focused attention. This may take work and practice, but it is worth it.

In the Prayer for Lent, we can ask Jesus to help us to work each day (not only during Lent but every day) to open our hearts to God and allow him to pursue and purify our hearts. May we accept His love and His purification so we may be every day more and more who He has created us to be.
3 Ways to Have a Meaningful Lent can help you spend time thinking and praying about how to have a meaningful Lent. I find it helpful to look at three different areas and make a plan to do something in each one: sacrifice, growth, and prayer. Pray and trust in God to lead you to where you need to be this Lent. He will help you to draw closer to Him.
