How to Form a Habit of Prayer
Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. Emmanuel’s video: How to Form a Habit of Prayer
How to form a habit of prayer to deepen your faith life with God from Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. Emmanuel.Do you feel stagnant sometimes in your prayer life? Do your prayers feel like they are the same old-same old prayers each day? Perhaps they feel uninspired or just humdrum. You yearn for more but are not sure how to make your prayer life better.
God yearns for you, too. He wants to have a connection to you, no matter how uninspired you feel in your prayer life. He invites you to communicate with Him about everything: the humdrum, ordinary things in your life, and the things that are deep in your heart. All of it.
Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. Emmanuel are here to help! In their video “How to Form a Habit of Prayer,” (you can find it at the bottom of this post), they offer us some simple tips on how to create a habit of daily prayer in our lives.
Tips to Help You Form a Habit of Prayer
The tips from Fr. Mark-Mary and Fr. Emmanuel can help us in our prayer life so we may be closer to God and more connected to Him.
Remember: God wants to communicate with you.
This is so important! God wants to hear from you. Fr. Emmanuel shares that God, our loving Father, wants to catch up with us.
Have I been too busy in my life to communicate with God regularly? What can I do to change that? Fr. Emmanuel gives us steps to help us. He suggests when to start our prayer time each day and then gives us three steps on how to pray during our prayer time.
Morning Prayer
Pray in the morning to start your day off well.
Praise
Praise God. Thank Him for all He does for you. Thank Him for the big and little things in your life. Thank God for all He has given you: your health, friendships, and anything that comes to your mind while you are praying.
Ask
Ask God for help. Ask the Holy Spirit to help you to pray. Ask God for the specific help you need to live your faith well.
Listen
When we are in a relationship with someone, we want to listen! A relationship is one-sided if we talk and talk and talk and do not take the time to listen at all.
Listen to the scriptures: read and listen to what God wants to tell you in the scriptures.
Get started
Just get started. It takes time to build a habit. We can work on praying one day at a time. Ask God to help you! He will.

I got a lot out of the video “How To Make Habit of Prayer. I like the idea of preparing the night before by getting enough sleep. We awaken refreshed and see so many more reasons to Praise God
Mary says
I am so glad you like the video. I like your point: when we get enough sleep we see more reasons to praise God. Yes! We are not sleep-deprived and cranky instead.
