Trust in Jesus

Trusting in Jesus
How can we make trusting in Jesus a more important part of our lives? It takes time, practice, and intention to trust in Jesus. This story illustrates a lesson I learned about letting go and trusting in Him more.
I found myself praying, asking God for this one thing I wanted. I was sure it would be great! I was already thinking about how my life would change for the better because of it. As I was going on and on in my prayer, I thought of the many benefits I could see.
I realized I needed to stop and listen to what Jesus had to say about this.
Imagining Jesus with Me
As I paused, an image came to my mind: me as a girl standing in front of a store window looking at something inside that I wanted. Jesus was standing beside me, looking at me. I was telling Jesus all about the item I wanted. I was telling Him all the features and what I would do with it. Jesus just smiled as he listened to me.
The me as the little girl in the scene did not see Jesus smile. No. She was focused on the item in the window as she was talking about it. The me watching the scene noticed Jesus’ smile. If I could put words to His smile, it would say, “Just you wait and see.”
Jesus knew something that the girl did not. He knew all about that item in the window. He knew what it could do, its benefits, its limitations, and how it would impact her life.
Would it really be as great as she thought it would be? Would it be forgotten in a few weeks? Could it cause many issues that she did not foresee? Or, worst of all, would it pull her away from Jesus?
Jesus knows what is best for us
Jesus knew what would happen if the girl got that item. He knew what would happen if she did not get it. He knew what would be best for her-either this or something else.
The secret smile Jesus had meant: “I know what I will get for you. It might be this, but it might be something else. Whatever it is, it will be the best thing for you. I already know what it is and how it will impact your life.”

Trust in Jesus
Trusting in Jesus can be challenging! We only know and see what is available to us at the moment, but Jesus sees what is up ahead. Trusting Jesus means we trust that He wants the best for us and knows so much more than we do. He sees the big picture instead of a tiny piece of the picture, as we do.
He will only allow what will be in our ultimate best interest.
And what is our ultimate best interest? Heaven. Our salvation. That is what He wants for us.
If you find yourself asking Jesus for something, picture Him beside you as you look at it and tell Him all about it. Know that His smile for you is one of love and care.
Trust in Him.
