11 For I know well the plans I have in mind for you, says the Lord,
plans for your welfare, not for woe!
plans to give you a future full of hope.
12 When you call me, when you go to pray to me,
I will listen to you.
13 When you look for me, you will find me.
Yes, when you seek me with all your heart,
14 you will find me with you, says the Lord,
and I will change your lot
In Jeremiah 29: 11-14a, God tells the Israelites: “I know well the plans I have in mind for you.” God plans to prosper them. God says He will “give them a future full of hope.” He also says, “I will listen to you” when they call on Him and pray to Him. When they seek God, they will find Him. These are promises of God. He is reassuring His people that He is with them and that He loves and cares for them. He has plans for them for a bright future.
So, how does this apply to us, thousands of years later? God knows the plans He has for us, too. He will be there for us and answer us when we call on Him. He wants for us to have “a future full of hope.” That is God’s part. Our part is to be faithful to God, to love and serve Him and to live our lives reflecting our faith. God knows the plans He has for us. We need to prayerfully discern those plans and faithfully carry them out. He will be with us as we do.
