Own Who You are as a Catholic Child of God
Own Who You are as a Child of God
The title of this post may sound strange-how can we own an identity? I use the term own in this way: to accept, to possess, to identify with. When you own who you are as a child of God, you act differently.
Do you take ownership of your identity as a child of God? Do you live your life with the knowledge in your heart and mind that you are the child of the one, true, living God?
It is quite an amazing concept to understand. God created the universe. God the Father allowed His Son Jesus Christ to die for your sins because He loves you that much. God created you for a purpose; He does not create indiscriminately-He has a plan.
Do you live your life in a way that shows you own this identity as a child of God?

Who am I as a child of God?
First of all, who is a child of God? God created each person on earth because He loves us, wants what is best for us, and wants us to be in Heaven with Him. When we are baptized, we become children of God and heirs of Heaven; we become part of the family of God.
Being a child of God is explained in these Bible verses from Galatians 3: 26-29:
“Each one of you is a son of God because of your faith in Christ Jesus. All of you who have been baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with him.
There does not exist among you Jew or Greek, slave or freeman, male or female. All are one in Christ Jesus. Furthermore, if you belong to Christ you are the descendants of Abraham, which means you inherit all that was promised.”
You are a child of God, an heir to the promises He made to Abraham.
How can I live as a child of God?
In order to live as a child of God, you first need to accept that you are a child of God. Then, live your life accordingly, reflecting that truth.
Accept that I am a child of God.
You are a child of God. Do you know this in your mind, but not fully accept in it your heart?
Sometimes you may feel unworthy of God's love and care for you. It is really amazing to think of-that the God who created the universe loves you! Out of all the people He could have created, He created you. He loves you so much that He created you. He loves you so much that He died for you.
God gives us free will. You can accept His gift of love or not. In His love for you, He gave you that choice. Will you accept Him and His love?

Live my life as a child of God.
When you accept God and your identity as a child of God, you can own who you are as a child of God. You can live your life reflecting this truth.
Knowing that the God who created the universe is your very own Father who loves you so much that He allowed His Son Jesus to die for you, affects all aspects of your life.
Will you live this truth in the way you think about yourself, in the way you treat yourself, in the way you treat others, and in the way that you practice your faith?
Even how you walk and talk is changed when you own in your heart who you are as a child of God. You walk with confidence and speak with greater love and compassion.
You talk to God more as a loving Father and to Jesus as a loving, protective brother more than as distant people you know nothing about.
You may want to share more about God with others. How can you hold this love to yourself? Others can have this amazing relationship with God, too.
You understand your gifts and talents in a new light; you want to use them for God, to give them back to Him as a gift.
When you own who you are as a child of God, you live your life differently. You think, act, and pray differently. You love more with God's love.
It can be challenging to own who you are as a child of God, to accept God's love for you and accept that you are an heir to all of His promises. But, you are His heir. You cannot change that. You can accept it and live your life to reflect it, or you can chose not to. Our lives are always better when we chose to accept who we are and lean on God to help us to live fully the life He has called us to live-one rich in the abundance of His love.
It is really a life-changing understanding. Will you take the time to really understand it and allow it to affect your life? The world will be a much better place when we all own who we are as children of God.
