Silent prayer before the Gospel reading at Mass
Prayer at the Gospel
Mayst Thou be ever adored and praised,
O Lord, who not content to instruct and inform us
by the prophets and apostles,
hast even vouchsafed to speak to us
by Thy only Son, our Savior, Jesus Christ,
commanding us, by a voice from heaven, to hear Him:
grant us, O merciful God, the graces
to profit by His divine and heavenly doctrine.
All that is written of Thee, dread Jesus,
in Thy gospel, is truth itself:
nothing in but wisdom in Thy actions;
power and goodness in Thy miracles;
light and instruction in Thy words.
With Thee, sacred Redeemer,
are the words of eternal life:
to whom shall we go, but to Thee,
eternal Fountain of Truth!
Give me, O God, grace to practice
what Thou commandest,
and command what Thou pleasest.
Prayer at the Gospel is such a beautiful prayer! It is one you can pray silently just before the Gospel is read at Mass. This prayer before the Gospel reading is a recognition of the divinity of Christ, the truths in the Gospel, and a plea for God to help us to live the Gospel fully in our lives. May we always prayerfully seek to understand God’s messages, promises, and truths in the Bible and apply them to our own lives.
The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus: How to Practice the Sacred Heart Devotion by Rev. John Croiset shares the message Jesus gave to St. Margaret Mary about His Sacred Heart. Fr. Croiset was the spiritual director for St. Margaret Mary for 43 years. The book also contains St. Margaret Mary’s prayers to the Sacred Heart and the Sacred Heart Promises.
