Prayer to Have Ears to Hear

Lord,

Help me by Your grace to have ears to hear

what You want me to know

and the courage to follow it.

May I not listen to You with my ears covered

or turn away when You speak to me.

May I have ears open to Your voice

and may my will be ready to follow and serve You.

Prayer to Have Ears to Hear was inspired by Acts 7: 51-60. Stephen was martyred by the crowd who “covered their ears” (verse 57) because they did not want to hear what Stephen said about God; he spoke only the truth about Christ and about Christ’s persecution. May I have my ears open to hear God’s voice and to follow it, too. I need to do both: hear and follow His will.
