Psalm 130: Prayer for Pardon and Mercy
Psalm 130: Prayer for Pardon and Mercy
1 A song of ascents.
Out of the depths I cry to you, O Lord;
Lord, hear my voice!
2 Let your ears be attentive
to my voice in supplication:
3 If you, O Lord, mark iniquities,
Lord, who can stand?
4 But with you is forgiveness,
that you may be revered.
5 Trust in the Lord;
my soul trusts in his word.
6 My soul waits for the Lord
more than sentinels wait for the dawn.
More than sentinels wait for the dawn,
7 let Israel wait for the Lord,
For with the Lord is kindness
and with him is plenteous redemption;
8 And he will redeem Israel
from all their iniquities.
As we pray Psalm 130, we cry out to God (verses 1-3), recognize His forgiveness (verse 4), show Him we trust in Him (verses 5-6), wait on Him (verses 6-7), and recognize His kindness and mercy (verses 7-8). There is a lot going on in this Psalm! It is a song asking for God’s pardon and mercy wherein we recognize God’s goodness and place our trust in Him.
