Prayer at the Ablution

Prayer at the Ablution-Mass Prayer
Give me, O Lord,
a part in the fruits of Thy death and passion,
the sacred memory of which we have commemorated
in our present sacrifice and communion.
Happy those who sit at Thy table to partake of the bread of life!
O Jesus, my soul sighs after Thee!
I long with Thy Apostle to be dissolved,
and to be with Thee.
My heart, and my whole body,
with transports of joy,
seek the living God.
My soul languishes with the ardent desire
of entering into the house of our Lord.
I love Thee, O my God, with all my heart!
O that I could always enjoy
the presence of Thy adorable Body,
which is the pledge of our eternal happiness!
I adore Thy goodness,
and return Thee infinite thanks,
O gracious Lord,
for Thy inestimable favor and mercy,
in admitting me to be present this day at the dread sacrifice,
where Thou art both Priest and Victim.
Make me, O God,
always sensible of this great blessing,
and let not my unworthiness put a stop
to the effect of Thy mercy and goodness.
Amen.
Ablution means to wash-either part of the body or sacred vessels as part of a ritual. There is a Prayer at the Ablution for when the priest washed his hands before the consecration. This Prayer at the Ablution Mass Prayer is one to pray after the consecration and elevation of the host, but before receiving Holy Communion. It articulates our longing to be with God and shows Him our desire to receive Him in the Eucharist.
